My Newest obsession

EBay. The name evokes thoughts of hidden
treasures and rare, hard to find items - all
just waiting for you to click and bid on. The
premise is much like a mortar and brick auction
house. The high bidder gets the item with only
one exception - The seller can put a reserve on
an item. It can be hidden from the bidder - and
acts as a minimum. It started watching my husband
bidding on a golf club he wanted but was no longer
made. A King Cobra Pitching Wedge whatever that
may be.
Why this is exciting I can't really tell you but
from the moment of my first bid this month I was
hooked. No one bid against me so I was high bidder
on a treasure that came in the mail last week.
On the second item I obtained someone had the
audacity to bid against me. Ha, I put in a maximum
bid so I got it anyway. But I can tell you that I sat
poised at the computer hitting the refresh button as
I watched the minutes count down just to make sure I
got my treasure. Please know that I can't possible
tell you what treasures these are because if you knew
I was collecting them you might try to bid against me
and that would never do.
They have a search tool that is fun to use just to
browse and window shop. As an example try a search for
lunch boxes. My search revealed 35 items with 6 people
bidding on a collection of 5 boxes and the total was up
to $51! Goodness, where is that old lunch box of Howdy
Doody I used to carry? I did a search for beer cans and
it revealed 1050 items with one of their most expensive
items being a 'rare' Kegle Brau 1 Gallon Beer can 8 people
were bidding on that and they had brought the total up to
$177.50! One of their cheaper beer cans was a steelers
team of the decade Iron City Beer for $1.00. Now I do
have an old Burgermeister can that has a music box - I
wonder what that might fetch if I wanted to part with it.
If anyone has a guess please let me know. Goodness, I even
searched for Fresca and came up with 22 items. You can set up
the search to show you the items that are ending first, have
the highest price, the lowest price, or the newest items
listed. I'd say this is a buyer beware market. They do have
photographs of the items and most of the sellers are very
descriptive. I suspect it's best to be leery of terms like
vintage (unless you're looking for something old/used),
shabby chic, and so forth. I'm sure it's best to do your
homework or buy it because you love it, collect it, or want
it to complete a set not because you think it'll get you rich
or that you're getting a real bargin.
So, what do you love, collect, remember from your childhood,
or just want to look at? Search eBay and have a look.
To trade on eBay, you'll need to register and then confirm
that registration. Don't worry—it's quick and it's free!
I can't give you any inside information on the sellers point
of view. But buying was painless.
The services overview is where you'll find the many services
eBay offers to make your trading fun, safe, and successful.
And if there is a problem - which happened with one of my
auctions the support people do get back with you - in my
case the next day. Not only that but I thanked them for
their response and told them the problem had been resolved
and they e-mailed back thanking me for the thank you.
If you see me bidding say hello - I'll be the one refreshing
and hovering below the $10 mark.
